AnnouncementsDecember 14, 2015Dear J2 Families,
A belated thank you to Mr. Villar and Mrs. Cabrera, who chaperoned our awesome field trip to the aquarium last month! And a great big thank you to our class families who fulfilled a few of our class needs from the Wish Tree in the office! The paper towels and tissue will definitely come in handy this cold season. J2 Holiday Pajama Party: December 17, 2015. No parents at this party please- we'll be working on completing some top-secret gifts for you during the party! Mrs. Buchanan and I will be providing a lunch main dish of pizza with drinks. We currently have an overflow of families contributing desserts. If you would also like to contribute, we'd welcome more paper goods (plates/bowls/napkins) and a few side dishes of vegetables or fruit. Pajamas are welcome - no fuzzy slippers please. Congratulations to our J2 Eagles of the Quarter, Deneb and Isaiah! We're so proud of you both! 2nd quarter in J2 will see some some changes in homework. Please keep checking these announcements and the homework page for more details. For parents that showed an interest in volunteering to help in the classroom, we will be setting up a calendar for you to sign up for days that we need volunteers. Keep an eye on our announcements and parent page! We will also be starting Mystery Reader once a week! An opportunity to surprise your child by reading a book to the class as a mystery reader. The mystery reader can also be an older brother or sister, or other family members! If this is something you'd be interested in - keep an eye out on our announcements and parent page! Today was a whirlwind of activities and we were unable to do our List 8 spelling test! We will make up the test when we return from break (after a review). If your child would like to go online and practice on spellingcity.com, they are free to log in and try any of the games or even the practice tests! Students return from Fall Break on Wednesday, October 14. Sincerely, Mrs. Cotham and Mrs. Buchanan October 1, 2015Dear J2 Families,
Thank you to all the families who have donated books to our class library! We appreciate your generosity. We hope you were able to attend Monday's Book-fair event, Eat, Play, Build. Tomorrow, Oct. 2, is 1st grade's Cardboard Challenge day. Please remember that participating in building and bringing a cardboard/recyclable game is optional. If your child made a game, please have them bring it to J2 tomorrow morning. J1 and J2 classrooms will be sharing and playing each others' games in the morning. There is also a school run Cardboard Challenge event from 12:00-12:45, weather permitting. It has been a fabulous first quarter with our wonderful first graders! We are so proud of all the progress they have made. Report cards will be distributed after your scheduled parent teacher conferences near the end of October (more information to come). Students return from Fall Break on Wednesday, October 14. Sincerely, Mrs. Cotham and Mrs. Buchanan September 21, 2015Dear J2 Families,
Tomorrow is PICTURE DAY for J2! Our scheduled time slot is before first recess. Our field trip to the state capitol and HTY's Anime Alice play was so fun! We got slightly drizzled on, but it was a lovely day to walk around the capitol. A great big thank you to Mrs. Mayes and Mrs. Orellana, our awesome chaperones! Just 2 weeks until Fall Break! Thank you, Mrs. C and Mrs. B September 1, 2015Hello again families,
Here is what we've learned in English Language Arts thus far. Reminders:
August 7, 2015 - End of the first full week of schoolHello families,
Wow! It has been a busy and work filled week! We're starting to really get to know our students and their personalities. This week they have learned all about the school rules and even created our own rules for our classroom! They learned all about our class procedures and routines, too. We completed some our beginning of the year pre-assessments this week and began learning language arts, math, and the purpose for rules (social studies). We even had our first P.E. class with Mr. Enoki! Parents, if you haven't filled out the J2 Handbook Response Form, please do so as soon as possible. This information is just for Mrs. Buchanan and I. Remember to initial your child's SPIN behavior calendar daily. Note regarding homework: If homework takes longer than an hour or 45 min. to complete, please stop. By that point, frustration can make homework time unproductive. Make a note in your child's SPIN to let us know and, if time permits, we will let them complete it in class the next day or the next day as homework at home. Thank you, Mrs. Cotham and Mrs. Buchanan First day of school - July 29, 2015Families, please read J2's Welcome Handbook thoroughly and then respond to the Google Form to confirm that you have read it.
Thank you, Shelby Cotham and Kristen Buchanan Two teachers…what’s up with that?
